Director of Photography based in Stavanger, Norway.
Born amongst oil platforms in Stavanger, the base of the Norwegian petroleum industry on the windy South-West coast of Norway.
Growing up, a lot of time was spent in the country's striking nature; hiking and skiing in the mountains, and fishing in the fjords in summertime.
After spending the time in high-school divided between school work, video workshops and theatre stage work, a filmmaking education was pursued at The London Film School, before returning to Norway in ’96 where the first couple of years were spent camera assisting on drama and commercials, while also shooting/editing films for the oil industry.
And so the adventures began. Since then I’ve been shooting films all over the world in all kinds of disciplines; from corporate films and commercials, documentaries, TV series and feature films; as a camera operator, 2nd unit DP and cinematographer.
I feel blessed to keep expanding my horizons, and every year adding new destinations to my working map!
Working with such a variety of clients and directors - with diverse styles and different cultural backgrounds - has surely expanded my communication skills, as well as the ability to make things happen quickly and precisely, creating images in the way that the director has envisioned.
As an artist, I am constantly looking for new ways to tell stories - and how to influence the viewer to get an emotional response - in an industry and a profession that is constantly evolving, both in methods, ideologies, technological and aesthetic.
I find it of the utmost importance to have an understanding of how the visual flow will best support the story at hand, and how to apply the cinematic tools at my disposal.
I work on small, hurried projects and large, luxurious projects with the same passionate attention to detail and desire to create a solid, distinct look for each project.
All in close collaboration with my fellow filmmakers. Teamwork is key.
I am a member of The Norwegian Society of Cinematographers, The Lithuanian Association of Cinematographers, and currently on the board of directors of the Norwegian Filmworkers Union.
Oh, and by the way; I’m also an enthusiastic stills photographer…
